 Chef DIX

CHEF BIO-

Born into Hip Hop literally and let me tell you a little story how.....August 2nd, 1979 SugarHill Gang recorded "Rapper Delight" the first Hip Hop single and released it on September 16th, 1979 right?

Chef Dix mother always told him his due date was August 2nd, 1979 but for some reason Chef Dix didn't pop out of L-Nett's body until September 14th, 1979.  Two days before they released this earth shattering new form of music to the world.  His mother also told him that on the way home from the hospital we both heard the song for the first on the radio and young Jay Dix aka Chef Dix couldn't stop moving and shaking the whole ride home.  So he was basically born into the moniker of

"World 1st Rappin Chef".

Raised in Youngstown, Ohio until the young age of 18. Chef Dix has always carried a passion for food close in his heart. He was exposed early on to food through his mother. It's was bacon, eggs, grits and Luther Vandross every morning in his home growing up. Coming from a long line a male cooks within his family, he grew up watching not only his mother but his father also whip culinary cuisine. One of his favorite things to watch on TV as a kid was the short "Mr. Food" cooking showcases on the local news channel.

Growing up Chef Dix wanted to become a law enforcement officer but after taking a cooking class in 12th grade, cooking was soon to become a passion for him. After graduating high school Chef Dix moved to Pittsburgh, Pa to further his education. Receiving two degrees, the first being in Culinary Arts from the International Culinary Academy and the second in Liberal Arts & Sciences(Major- Nutrition) from the Community College of Allegheny County. Chef Dix  also has completed Hotel & Restaurant Management courses and holds certification in SafeServe. He admits culinary school was a great experience, "I thought I was just learning to cook some food, but I learned so much more!" Although he does not believe culinary school will make you a great cook. It will give you the tools you need, the rest is up to you and your taste buds.

Chef Dix spent his formative years training in several locations around Pittsburgh including Bobby Rubino’s Restaurant, South Hills Country Club, Magee Woman's Hospital, Boston Market, Carnegie Mellon University. Through various employments throughout his cooking career, Chef Dix has always held leadership roles in the FOH and BOH. Stints at places like Heniz Hall, the Mario Lemieux Golf Tournament, Catering Events, working on a food trucks & cooking for private catering parties have all helped to enhance his culinary knowledge and broaden his appetite for good food. An also being a traveling man, he has indulged at alot of places around the country and in other countries that he has visited.

Chef Dix is proud to know that his has cooked for everyone from the regular person off the street, family and friends, provided tasty meals to women just welcoming a new life into this world. An has also had a hand in cooking for politicians such as Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, catering to parties for the president of CMU Dr. Jared L. Cohon, the Mario Lemieux Golf Tournament(with celebrities such as Jerome Bettis, Charles Barkley). Also once President Obama and Mark Zuckerberg visited the campus, but I'm still wanting to hear back about if those appetizers I made ever reached them!

“My goal to provide the good people of this world with simple honest foods that taste extraordinary, one plate at a time.” ~Chef Dix
